In today's life, we find that more and more people have built sunrooms in their courtyards, gardens, and terraces. However, many people who have built sunrooms encounter water leakage problems whenever it rains. Why does the sunroom leak? What is the specific cause of water leakage? How to do a good job of waterproofing in a sunroom?
Because in today's life, many people still use glass to make sunrooms. We know that making a sunroom with glass is indeed cheap, but making a sunroom is just for enjoyment, and there are many problems with making glass. What materials are used for the sunroom?
Firstly, let me take a look at where the sunroom is most prone to water leakage?
1. The connection between the frame and the glass and the wall: Due to the fact that many sunrooms are built against the wall, some have single-sided walls while others have multiple sided walls, it is very easy for water to leak at the connection between the wall and the glass.
2. The paint layer on the wall gradually falls off and loosens under the exposure of sunlight, and the adhesive joints previously applied to the wall and glass joints gradually peel off and peel off, eventually causing cracks and water leakage.
3. The weak frame construction is also one of the reasons for the leakage of sunrooms. Many sunroom production companies cut corners and use non-standard iron or aluminum pipes, which are not strong enough. Over time, the overall frame of the sunroom deforms, with multiple adhesive cracks and water leakage.
4. As we all know, a sunroom is composed of a frame, insulated glass, and broken bridge aluminum doors and windows, with glass glue filling between them. There are many types of glue, and the quality of glue varies greatly. Many people use recycled glue to save money, and the natural cracking of the glue during hot and cold weather is also one of the important reasons for water leakage in sunrooms.
How to solve the problem of water leakage in the sunroom?
1. After the completion of the sunroom frame, if there is any connection with the wall, it is necessary to remove the paint on the original wall so that the adhesive can be firmly connected to the wall. Otherwise, over time, the adhesive will dry and shrink, causing the paint on the wall to be pulled off and leakage. It is best to make a groove on the wall above the covering after gluing, install a rain shield, and ensure that the double-layer waterproofing does not leak.
2. There are also certain requirements for the use of glue in sunrooms. The top of the sunroom is usually made of structural glue and weather resistant glue. In the gaps between the top coverings, a layer of structural glue is first applied, with a fullness of about two-thirds of the gap, and then 10% weather resistant glue is attached. The reason is that structural glue has a high degree of connection, which can firmly link the frame and coverings together, while weather resistant glue has strong oxidation and corrosion resistance, and can withstand rainwater and sunlight exposure. It is important not to use ordinary door and window silicone as waterproofing for the top.
3. A sunroom is different from doors and windows. It is formed by an overall frame structure, and an unstable frame can affect the service life of the sunroom. The top of the sunroom is usually made of more glass, which is subjected to high stress. An unstable frame under the pressure of the glass can cause slight deformation of the sunroom as a whole.
4. Pay attention to details and do a good job of finishing work. Water is everywhere, so don't be impatient when doing the finishing work. The finishing work of the sunroom is very important. Glue must not be missed between doors, windows, and frames. The joints between door and window profiles, as well as the joints between frames, may leak in any area with gaps.
At present, there are two main ways to waterproof sunrooms:
Material waterproofing and structural waterproofing. It is recommended whether waterproofing the sunroom or structural waterproofing is better.
1. Disadvantages of material waterproofing: Sealing materials are prone to failure, cracking, and becoming brittle under the erosion of wind, rain, and snow. In addition, the sealant is sensitive to ultraviolet radiation and prone to aging. This sealing material usually fails after two to three years, causing water leakage in the sunroom.
2. The benefits of structural waterproofing: EPDM rubber strips, sealing strips, strong steel plates, aluminum alloy profiles, and hollow connection methods determine the scientific nature of this method. Therefore, this waterproofing effect is excellent, and even if the rubber strips age, replacing them is a very easy task.
Although the problem of glass roof leakage in sunrooms is tricky, as long as we identify the root cause of the problem and adopt the correct solution, we can quickly solve this problem. Through many effective measures, we can effectively improve the waterproof performance of sunrooms, ensuring that they can provide us with a comfortable and pleasant living experience in various weather conditions. At the same time, we should also recognize the importance of prevention, strengthen daily maintenance work, and reduce the occurrence of water leakage problems.
