What is the purpose of hardening PC solid sheets?

The hardening of PC solid sheets is a major problem currently faced in China. Although there are many reports on PC hardening in China, many manufacturers in China are unable to solve these problems by truly achieving PC hardening without affecting the original basic properties of PC solid sheets, such as strength, curvature, and transparency.

Firstly, how is hardened PC solid sheets made?

It is to use PC solid sheets manufacturers to produce molded PC solid sheets products, process a layer of coating on the surface of the PC solid sheets through machine equipment, use hardener on top, and then cool to form hardened PC solid sheets.

The surface hardness produced by our factory is 1HB (other manufacturers have around 0.5HB), but now we found online that some people say that PC solid sheets can achieve 5H surface hardening, which is very unrealistic. The best hardening done in China can achieve 2H. But there are still many problems to achieve this step. As its hardening degree increases, the softness of the PC solid sheets also decreases, becoming as brittle as PS! It cannot be bent, it can only be placed flat.

The hardened PC solid sheets has a maximum hardening size of 1380mm * 2440mm. We need to pay special attention to the size, thickness, and location of use when hardening. If high transparency, strength, and softness are required.

Secondly, PC solid sheets undergo secondary treatment after molding.

The main process is hardening treatment. The main reason for hardening the PC solid sheet is that its surface hardness is not enough, which makes it easy to scratch and scratch, greatly limiting its application.

Since the development of surface treatment technology for PC solid sheets, it has been possible to achieve 2H through surface hardening. However, it should be noted that not all quality PC solid sheets can be hardened, indicating that hardened PC solid sheets have strict requirements for the board material.

One of the most important prerequisites is that the surface of the PC solid sheets needs to be free of mold head lines, water ripples, and other phenomena before it can be hardened.

Finally, there is a major drawback of hardened solid sheets:

The surface hardening treatment of the shets will affect its flexibility, and the solid sheets will become very brittle. During processing or installation, the solid sheet is prone to brittle cracking. At the same time, the sheet cannot be bent and can only be placed flat during the placement process.

So although hardened solid sheets meet the needs of some customers, their overall application in the market is still very limited.
