Why do we usually use PC hollow sheets for our awnings and carports?
There are generally two types of canopies: one is small canopies such as cantilevered canopies and suspended canopies; The second type is a large canopy, such as a wall or column supported canopy; Today's discussion mainly focuses on large canopies. The selection of canopy materials is the most crucial step in our canopy construction, choosing the most suitable materials. Below, we will choose the corresponding materials based on various classifications of rain shelters, and PC polycarbonate sheets are the most common material for rain shelters.

Tempered glass is made by uniformly heating ordinary glass and cooling it at a corresponding cooling rate according to different thicknesses when approaching the softening point. When subjected to super strong impact damage, the fragments are dispersed in small particles without sharp edges, hence it is also known as safety glass. But this product is generally used for curtain walls because it is fragile as a carport.
Laminated glass (i.e. laminated glass) has excellent safety. Due to the adhesive effect of the plastic lining in the middle, when the glass breaks, the fragments will not scatter, only radiating cracks will be produced, which is safe and does not harm people. 1. Flame retardancy
The self ignition temperature of PC hollow sheets is 630 ℃ (220 ℃ for wood). After testing by the National Fire resistant Building Materials Quality Supervision and Testing Center, the combustibility of PC sheet has reached GB (8624-1997 Flame retardant B1 level), which belongs to flame retardant engineering materials.
2. Chemical corrosion resistance
PC hollow sheet has good chemical corrosion resistance and can withstand corrosion from various organic acids, inorganic acids, weak acids, vegetable oils, neutral salt solutions, aliphatic hydrocarbons, and alcohols at room temperature. The heat-resistant and cold resistant PC hollow sheet has good temperature difference resistance and can adapt to various harsh weather changes from severe cold to high temperature, maintaining stable physical performance indicators in the range of -40 ℃ to 120 ℃.
3. Photochemical properties
The PC hollow sheet has the highest transmittance in the visible and near-infrared spectra. Depending on the color, the transmittance can reach 12% -88%.
Due to its outstanding advantages and long service life, it is widely used in fields such as greenhouses, carports, rain shelters, rain shelters, sunrooms, and skylights.
In addition, waterproofing and drainage issues also need to be considered for underground entrance and exit carports, because the surface of the sunlight board is smooth, and in rainy and snowy weather, it will not cause a large amount of accumulation, and rain and snow will naturally slide off. Moreover, the load-bearing capacity of the sunroof carport is very strong, so even in heavy snow, there is no need to worry about the collapse of the carport. The underground entrance and exit carport should also have shading function, because when vehicles come out of a relatively dark parking lot, the sunlight from the sun can affect the driver's line of sight. And the sunny side of high-quality solar panels usually has a UV coating, which can effectively prevent ultraviolet rays and to some extent avoid accidents.
The construction of a typical carport requires at least 8mm hollow sheets, which can last for about four to five years for ordinary ones and around ten years for better ones. Because the carports we build are usually located outdoors, external wind, rain, and sunlight exposure can cause certain damage to our boards, which will eventually affect their performance. In addition, some carports have requirements for load-bearing capacity, and there are concerns that falling heavy objects or people walking on them may cause safety issues. So it's best to choose high-quality and long-lasting solar panels when building them. Of course, with the improvement of quality and performance, the price will also increase. Therefore, when choosing boards, we can choose suitable sheets according to our actual needs.
Therefore, PC sheet rain shelters are mainly used for various platforms, parking lot exits, carports, etc. It is currently the most common and practical canopy material.
